February, 2002. Sitting atop artist Sergio Furnari's artwork/sculpture of Empire State Building construction workers having lunch while sitting on a beam fifty floors above ground in the 1930's. Sergio's piece, which sat outside a bank on the edge of Ground Zero came under fire when the bank owners accused him of putting this "eyesore" next to their building. What the corporate executives didn't realize was not only was Sergio's piece beautiful, but it was an inspiration to the Ground Zero workers who passed by it each day in and out of work - it represented Growth, Spirit, Re-Birth, Courage and the best of the American Spirit that helped build and shape this country. It made you feel proud to be an American. Good work, Sergio.
