Aloha New York! It was quite a surprise when the State of Hawaii, through Tim Farley and the Lt. Governor Maize Hirono, brought 5,000 leis and 6,000 pineapples courtesy of Dole and airfreighted courtesy of United Airlines, to New York City. The leis were given to all Ground Zero workers on Easter and it really picked up the spirits of everyone. The leis were made by hand by small mom and pop stands who, although they were poor themselves, gave of themselves to donate all their leis to New York. Hawaii has offered to send you fresh Leis, Coffee, Macadamias and Pineapples as a gift from August, 2002 through January, 2003.
