I ran down to street level and around corner to Pastis Restaurant where I was scheduled to meet a friend for breakfast at 10:00 AM, before this tragedy stopped time. She was not there so I assumed she'd seen the TV. As I turned to go back, I saw a massive smoke cloud
that hovered in the sky, visible even from the meat-packing district. I took a photo and realized that all the people in this shot have no idea what has happened. Some people asked what I was shooting and thought I was joking when I told them. I raced back to the roof of my building.
