"Why?" There are two photos in my life that I will remember as the hardest to take. One comes at the end of this site. The other is this one. I was approaching this fallen truck, the last ride for our Heroes, when some firefighters approached. Out of respect I put the camera away. A firefighter leaned against the truck and stood there. Moments later, another firefighter walked up and proudly wiped the ash off the FDNY emblem, then scrawled WHY? I never had a bigger lump in my throat then that moment. When the men had left, I shot this frame. Then I went and shot some notes that were scribbled into fallen Ladder 18 from West 10th street, which also lost many Heroes. I hope these photos convey the loss that these Hero's families have suffered -and the city of New York. These shots are examples of what I feel in my heart for everyone who suffered as a result of the terrorist attack.
